UNDERTAKER*
Quote Link to comment
nWoHulkster
New Japan Pro-Wrestling is moving and at today's first major show since a G1 Climax finale boasting the same main event, the young generation almost completely consumed older wrestlers towards the top of the card. In what will probably go down as their third match of the year candidate against each other in the same year, Yuji Nagata and Hiroshi Tanahashi had their closest fight yet. Clad in black tights, Tanahashi meant business, and showed that he is more than an equal for Nagata now. This match had everything you'd expect from these two, exceeding the half hour point in a real showcase of the New Japan heavyweight style, before Tanahashi dropped Nagata with a Dragon suplex, then landed his third High Fly Flow of the match to become the 47th generation champion, beginning his second reign. Tanahashi's V1 defense in the same building on 11/11 was also basically set up, but more on that below. Ryusuke Taguchi completed a grueling schedule by completing his third defense of the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title in just a couple of weeks. Fukumen World League winner, Tiger Mask, was V1 in Hiroshima late last month, then KAGEKI boss Azteca, and today it was another rematch from earlier in the year like the main event, as Taguchi faced the man he lifted the belt from, Minoru. In another spectacular battle, Taguchi scored his third successive win over the "Black Prince", showing that he truly has risen to the top of the junior division. HOWEVER, it could be curtains for Taguchi soon, after the ever-fearsome Koji Kanemoto won a contendership battle royal in the opening match, meaning it is likely to be Taguchi vs. Kanemoto at Sumo Hall next month in the young junior ace's V4 defense. Hirooki Goto's comeback has been nothing less than remarkable. Completely unbeaten, he has looked sharp in the ring, with good ring presence, and has pinned names who were above him before he departed from Mexico. He reached a new height today by defeating upper tier star, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, in a match that some even called the best of the show. Goto looked great today and is sort of breaking a tradition where many young wrestlers tend to be somewhat unimpressive in the ring after overseas excursions. Goto bled fiercely in this match, but the heavyweight fighter showed how far he has come, making the GBH leader his step and pinning him following the Shouten. And so it seems that the young generation will lead next month at Sumo Hall, when Tanahashi vs. Goto looks to headline New Japan's holy palace. Togi Makabe achieved revenge over former tag partner Shiro Koshinaka, who betrayed GBH in favour of Legend. Koshinaka, who is about to go on his first excursion to Mexico in two decades, had to fight off some intervention from the ever troublesome Tomoaki Honma, and fell to Makabe's top rope King Kong lariat, the Unchained Gorilla still going strong after reaching the G1 semis in August. In a novelty dream match, Akebono defeated Milano Collection AT at his own game, submitting him with the Bono Lock! Milano was crafty enough to work around the astounding weight difference for a while, before it was too much. NJPW "EXPLOSION '07", 10/8/07 (WPW) Tokyo Ryogoku Kokugikan 1. Koji Kanemoto won an IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title #1 Contender New Japan Jr. Rumble (12:28) when he used an ankle hold on Tetsuya Naito. Participants: Koji Kanemoto, Tiger Mask, Yujiro, Tetsuya Naito, Jado, Gedo & Taichi Ishikari. 2. New Japan vs. Legend-gun: Riki Choshu, Masahiro Chono, Super Strong Machine, Jushin Thunder Liger & AKIRA beat Manabu Nakanishi, Takashi Iizuka, Naofumi Yamamoto, Takashi Uwano & Mitsuhide Hirasawa (7:56) when Chono used a Shining Yakuza kick on Iizuka. 3. BLACK vs. GBH: Giant Bernard, Travis Tomko & Prince Devitt beat Toru Yano, Tomohiro Ishii & Tomoaki Honma (11:02) when Bernard pinned Honma after the Magic Killer. 4. G1 Dream Illusion: Akebono beat Milano Collection AT (6:16) with the Bono Lock. 5. GBH Ikon Seisan Match: Togi Makabe beat Shiro Koshinaka (10:22) with a top rope King Kong kneedrop. 6. Special Singles Match: Hirooki Goto beat Hiroyoshi Tenzan (18:05) with the Shouten. 7. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title: Ryusuke Taguchi © beat Minoru (17:37) with the Dodon (3rd defense). 8. IWGP Heavyweight Title: Hiroshi Tanahashi beat Yuji Nagata © (31:05) with the High Fly Flow to become the 47th champion. Quote Link to comment
