Loop
Stand up for yourselves! Welcome to another edition of “My Take On.” This is one of those columns where I can touch on stuff that doesn’t fit in the news column or 3R’s. This week I am PISSED and it is time to vent. Mediocrity: The WWE = Mediocre: Yeah, I will discuss the subject that seems TABOO to 99% of the fans right now. So here it is: You are being conned by the greatest conman in wrestling history; Vince McMahon. For all of the great things he has done, right now he is doing the smartest thing for himself. Putting out a mostly sub-par product because he can. The best part is that people are taking it and loving it! LOVING IT! Did I see a different program? They loved this show…not me. I saw people right away praising Raw as an AWESOME SHOW! Non-stop action! This is what wrestling is supposed to be! Is it? As I watched Raw this week, I was bored. The opening 15-minutes were electric (I did love it, as it was an awesome promo and an emotional roller coaster, don’t think I am knocking it.) I loved it and frankly, I would have loved for him to talk for the entire show. Then…it just dropped off. By the way, no one wants to admit that the HBK fake out with the music is a rehash from what, two months ago with Edge and the Hardy music? That gimmick isn’t even dusty yet and they used it again. But since it worked so well…we’ll just let it go. The Big Show, who is a part time player on Raw gets to destroy one of the only TWO tag teams on Raw, while we forget about his feud with Chris Masters. Eugene faced Dupree, which never got started because Kurt Angle snapped and went into kick ass mode and I was all happy because a crazy Kurt Angle is an awesome Kurt Angel…only to be made weak and a second rate player in the main event. The Diva search closes up as one of these lucky ladies gets to collect a paycheck that was given up by one of the 20 or so releases from black Wednesday. The Intercontinental Champion got treated like a bitch in a whorehouse…again this week and lost in a HANDICAP MATCH where he had the advantage! He also seems to have no match for the SECOND BIGGEST PPV of the year! Did Shelton Benjamin fall off the face of the planet? Edge beat Val in a cookie cutter, WWE Style match. Of course those of us that like Val are just glad he gets to see Raw at all these days. Rob Conway beat one half of the tag team champions in a singles match, in another cookie cutter match that you have seen 100 times. Why do we have tag team titles anymore? As I said, Kurt Angle played bitch to Hogan and then HBK came out and he was gone, like he didn’t matter. The worst part is that Angle sold one of the worst boots EVER for like a minute until HBK ran out. Way to make him look weak. Sure the ending was hot, but bookends don’t make a spectacular show. Raw was great! Unbelievable! This show was awesome, beyond words! This is what I was greeted to after Raw this Monday night. You have been brainwashed, conned, bamboozled and hoodwinked. Just because the WWE is the “biggest dog in the yard” people want to blindly praise it. You need to wake up, you need to open your eyes and you need to see the truth. Put down your WWE pom poms and stop cheerleading mediocrity. You are better than that. No one wants to fix things, you just complain or take it: The Great American Bash sold 235,000 BUYS! You know what? IT SUCKED! It was one of the worst PPV’s in a long time and the worst of the year. People say Eddie vs. Rey was great, but it wasn’t. I am sorry to say, every Rey vs. Eddie match is not Halloween Havoc 1997. But when they face, it is automatically a “classic.” I must have missed that memo. The thing is that I always hear people say that, “I am sick of the product, I am not watching Raw/Smackdown or ordering PPV again.” But the numbers don’t lie, you do. You accept the shit they serve up on a plate called “wrestling” and you scarf it down like it is Grade A rib-eye and you smile doing so while singing the cook’s praises. Some say titles mean nothing, but why do you watch then. Even with it being entertainment the story of the chase and winning of the title is what this business is all about and what it was built on. We cheer our favorites, and boo the ones we hate. The titles have been PISSED on repeatedly for a long time now. Remember all of the buzz for Cena and Big Dave chasing for and then winning the titles? Do you remember what it feels like to get excited about title matches…instead of fear the latest installment of JBL vs. Batista? But it is really hard to feel that way anymore. Why? The Cruiserweight title is a joke. Both tag titles are a joke. The storied Intercontinental title is a joke. The US Title, which has a rich history if you go all the way back is a joke. The Women’s division is dead. What do you do? Maybe the WWE needs more titles. NO! Damn it can you not realize that they have NO CLUE how to book what they have already! The IWC could be a powerful entity at times. A lot of us sit there and take this and do nothing. Some may bitch, but no one wants to offer up answers. No one seems to have passion or pride when they write. In the last two weeks I tried to offer up ways to save the Cruiser and tag divisions as well as Velocity. Don’t mindlessly bitch if you have no better solution to offer up. Don’t say a show is awesome because of one great segment. Don’t be afraid to buck the common trend, you’re allowed to criticize. Don’t be afraid to offer that criticism and they try to come up with something better. You are allowed to do that, you are allowed to want more and frankly you deserve more. But if you think it sucks, STOP buying PPV’s! Stop watching the shows when you say you will. Send them a message that you will not accept mediocrity as the status quo anymore. Stand up for yourselves. Options: Oh yes, contrary to popular belief there are options for you the wrestling fan RIGHT HERE in the United States. TNA: Yup, they’re closing in 6 months. Nope, 12 months. No, try again they are still here and they are firing on all cylinders. They get a TV deal and all anyone can do is bitch that it is on Saturday nights. What did you expect, they are just over three years old! They ARE NOT the WWE. They have to prove themselves to a major TV Company. They have survived and are putting on GREAT PPV’s, and all I hear is that, “Well, it’s a good PPV as far as TNA goes.” NO! They are DAMN good PPV’s as far as WRESTLING GOES! They are outing on great matches and trying to build to a major WrestleMania level show as well as prepare for SPIKE TV. But they aren’t good enough. They have Raven and Rhino on the next PPV, WWE Hardcore title rejects. No one wants to remember that they were booked like shit and pigeon holed into those slots. No one wants to give them a real chance to see what they can do on the big stage. If they aren’t WWE, they aren’t good enough. Why don’t you give them a fair chance? Don’t judge on “reports” and all, actually take a chance, or are you afraid you may like what you watch? Instead of buying the Great American Trash for $35, try one of the latest TNA PPV offerings, two of the BEST top to bottom PPV’s this year and learn to enjoy WRESTLING again. Ring of Honor: Ring of Honor just came off of a HUGE double shot weekend filled with great matches from all reports. Steve Cook attended the Dayton show, and he is never talking about “Match of the Year Candidates” but raved about the 4-way where James Gibson won the title. He said it was one of the coolest moments that he has EVER witnessed as a wrestling fan. CM Punk finished up his run with the company and in the middle of the ring fell to his knees as the ring filled with streamers and wept. He wept and cried because this chapter of his wrestling career was over. He wrestled his best and closest friend Colt Cabana and when all was said and done the locker room emptied and poured Pepsi over him and drank from Champagne glasses in HONOR of him and all he did for that company. As much as I disagree with a lot of their fans biased views, I have NEVER shortchanged their product. But after a HUGE event or weekend or a great match from them, what does the “status quo” say? Not bad for a niche promotion. They were probably ok for Indy matches. These guys go out there and bust their asses in front of 500-1500 fans and put on some of the BEST wrestling, yes WRESTLING in the country. If they aren’t WWE, they aren’t good enough. Why don’t you give them a fair chance? Don’t judge on “reports” and all, actually take a chance, or are you afraid you may like what you watch? Instead of buying the Great American Trash, order a few tapes for $6 and check them out and learn to enjoy WRESTLING again. My take on…? Yes, I have had a fire lit under my ass and it pissed me off. You don’t have to take it anymore, we can do better. We deserve better and we should get better. Stand up for yourselves, don’t accept the status quo and demand better. I don’t complain because I hate wrestling, I love it and I just want it to be better. You may think I have no right to complain but I do because I am a paying customer, I am their audience and their target demographic. And most importantly, when I complain I always offer up another way to do things and maybe even improve the product. I think what’s sad is that I am usually such a positive person…yet was so upset that I was motivated to write this. Sometimes a person just needs to rant. Ами няма как да не се съглася с него, надявам се всички да го прочетете и както казва той да дадете равен като на WWE шанс на ROH и TNA.
