MGM TELEVISION PARTNERS WITH WOW – WOMEN OF WRESTLING

Mark Burnett and Jeanie Buss Form Powerful Tag Team to Champion New Content For Television and Digital Platforms

Los Angeles, CA (April 20th, 2017) – Mark Burnett, MGM’s President, Television Group & Digital, and Jeanie Buss, Los Angeles Lakers Owner and President, announced a strategic partnership today to develop new content across a range of unscripted programming and digital formats for the popular WOW-Women Of Wrestling (WOW).

MGM with its proven track record of building successful unscripted franchises (Survivor, Shark Tank, The Voice) will work with WOW and its troupe of WOW Superheroes – a diversified group of athletic over-the-top characters, villains and heroines that include the notorious tag team, Caged Heat, Delta Lotta Pain and Loca, The Governor's Daughter, Abilene Maverick, The Dagger and newcomer, The Alpha Athlete, Adrenaline – as they begin production on their fifth season of the series.  Emmy Award®- winning Burnett and his team of producers headed by President of Unscripted Programming for MGM Television, Barry Poznick, will work in tandem with WOW’s Founder and President, David McLane, the impresario behind the ’80s hit women's wrestling television series, the Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling (GLOW), to create content for potential use across networks, digital platforms, cable and multicast networks.

“By challenging the status quo in transforming women's wrestling for the past two years, we feel WOW is now positioned for tremendous growth,” said WOW Owner Jeanie Buss. “We are very excited to have MGM’s incredible management team, headed by Chairman and CEO Gary Barber and Mark Burnett, in place to grow our business model.”

“Barry and I witnessed first-hand the enormous global fan base of professional wrestling with our team's production of Lucha Underground,”  Burnett noted. “We were looking to expand on our experience doing Lucha, and WOW felt like a natural progression in the space.  We love what Jeanie has developed and share in her vision of transforming this entertainment landscape. Together, we will look to elevate the WOW brand through creative production and enhanced character-driven storytelling.”

This is MGM Television's third partnership in the sports arena with Lucha Underground in its third season and its previously announced partnership with the Drone Racing League.

JEANIE BUSS AND MGM TELEVISON TAG AXS TV TO BROADCAST WOW-WOMEN OF WRESTLING EVENTS

6sDEHHL.jpg

The Dominant All-Women’s Professional Wrestling League, From The Founder of the Original GLOW, Sets 2019 Event Distribution

Los Angeles, CA - June 18, 2018 – Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, Mark Burnett, President of MGM Television and Digital Group and David McLane, the impresario behind the ’80s hit TV series GLOW (Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling), have tapped AXS TV to bring the emerging hit series “WOW-Women Of Wrestling” (WOW) to a wider U.S. TV audience.

AXS TV, which is a partnership between Mark Cuban, Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), TV and radio personality Ryan Seacrest and talent agency Creative Artists Agency (CAA), will provide the television production and cable, satellite and telco distribution for WOW events. The WOW Superhero events are action-packed all-female pro wrestling bouts presented with the theatrical flair of a major concert. The matches pit skilled, compelling wrestlers against each other, as their unique personalities generate intense feelings from WOW’s large and dedicated fan base.

“I knew of Jeanie’s passion for elevating women’s wrestling for several years, so when Mark Burnett told me what MGM Studios has planned for WOW, I decided to get involved,” AXS TV Chairman and CEO Mark Cuban said. “AXS TV’s long-term success inside the squared circle and broadcasting New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) makes airing WOW a natural fit.”

Indeed, with the box office success of Wonder Woman, the hit streaming series GLOW (inspired by McLane’s original franchise) and the marketplace embracing the empowerment of women, all indicators point to WOW becoming the success that Buss envisions.

“Fortunately, I grew up knowing that the key to building a winner starts with teamwork,” WOW owner Jeanie Buss said. “I’m so thankful that Mark Burnett and his MGM Studios, and now Mark Cuban’s AXS TV, are all part of our WOW team. AXS TV will provide a valuable platform to boost audience awareness of our WOW Superheroes, help grow our digital ecosystem and provide the best in women’s wrestling to the millions of fans who want to see powerful, confident women do battle in the ring.”

AXS TV will start recording WOW events in Los Angeles later this year, for broadcast beginning in early 2019. Information on the date, venue and ticket sales will be announced soon.

LOS ANGELES COMIC CON TEAMS WITH JEANIE BUSS TO PRESENT THE WOW SUPERHEROES FOR AXS TV TAPING

WOW-Women of Wrestling Returns to Downtown Los Angeles'  Belasco Theater for Two Nights of Battles on October 10th, 11th;  Tickets Are Now on Sale for Both Epic Events

Los Angeles – August 15, 2018 – WOW World Champion, Santana Garrett and more than 25 inspiring WOW Superheroes will battle in action-packed back-to-back matches at 7:30 p.m. PT Wednesday, October 10 and Thursday, October 11, at the Belasco Theater in Downtown Los Angeles. Los Angeles Comic Con – which draws crowds of close to 100,000 each year – has teamed up with WOW Owner Jeanie Buss and WOW Founder David McLane to present the October events. AXS TV will capture this high-flying spectacle for broadcast on their network, starting in early 2019. Tickets are now on sale at Ticketmaster.com, with detailed information found at WOWE.com.

Women’s wrestling has been a growing pop culture phenomenon for the past few years, fueled in part by the success of the Netflix series GLOW, leading to a new appreciation for the entertainment value and athleticism of women who choose to battle in the ring … and sometimes outside of it too.

“The marquee matchups at the Belasco Theater will include former WOW champion and fan favorite Jungle Grrrl, the Governor’s Daughter, Abilene Maverick, The All Natural, Khloe Hurtz who promises to have her Ring Rats fashionably attired for her ring entrance, The Temptress and making her return to WOW from the graveyard, Holidead,” WOW founder and matchmaker (and creator of the original GLOW) David McLane says. “It doesn’t stop there; fans will be captivated with The Beast, an athletic specimen not seen in wrestling before, plus in the WOW ring for the first time, the Mexican Warrior, Azteca and 19-year-old California sensation, Faithy J., who not only battles but also raps with the best of them.”

“We witnessed first hand how much our audience loved meeting the WOW Superheroes at last year’s event,” Los Angeles Comic Con CEO Chris DeMoulin noted.  “Everything pop-culture has a home at L.A. Comic Con, and we’re co-sponsoring this event because we know our fans will love to see the real-life WOW Superheroes heroines and villains in action live.”

“These two nights of WOW entertainment will be a landmark for women’s wrestling,” WOW Owner Jeanie Buss said. Buss, whose day job is Owner and President of the L.A. Lakers, also noted, “We have been listening to the fans of wrestling for several years, and we know they will love the live experience and be even more thrilled with the television presentation on AXS TV. And Los Angeles Comic Con is the perfect organization for WOW to team up with, as our WOW Superheroes fit in perfectly with the Comic Con’s fun, fantasy spirit.”

Tickets start at $25, with a limited number of front row seats available for $125. To buy tickets for the Oct. 10 event, click here: Ticketmaster; for the Oct. 11 event, click here: Ticketmaster.

TESSA BLANCHARD SIGNS WITH WOW-WOMEN OF WRESTLING

Third Generation Wrestling Star Signs with Jeanie Buss’ WOW Superheroes for Debut in Los Angeles at AXS TV Tapings

Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss announced that Tessa Blanchard, one of the biggest independent wrestling stars in the country today, has signed to become the newest WOW Superhero in the Buss owned WOW-Women Of Wrestling.

Tessa Blanchard was born for the business and is a third-generation professional wrestler. The long line of wrestling royalty includes her grandfather, Joe Blanchard, her father Four Horsemen member, Tully Blanchard, and step-father Magnum T.A.

“Knowing the expectations of our WOW fans to see the best in women’s professional wrestling, we are elated to sign Tessa Blanchard,” WOW Owner, Jeanie Buss said. “Tessa enhances and elevates our athletic roster of talent beyond measure and we can hardly wait to showcase her skills in the series set to broadcast on Mark Cuban’s AXS TV.”

Blanchard is a global presence and has held tchampionship titles in the U.S., Mexico and Japan and is currently the champion of the worldwide-distributed Impact Wrestling promotion based out of Canada. If the 22-year-old third-generation wrestling star is able to capture the WOW Championship that will be broadcast on AXS TV in January 2019, Blanchard could arguably be one of the brightest stars in the world of professional wrestling.

“I am grateful to both Impact Wrestling and the WOW executives for working out the details to allow me to pursue my dream of competing at the highest levels within our industry,” Blanchard said. “The success I’ve experienced in the past month in winning the Impact Championship, winning in Chicago at the ‘All In’ event in front of over 10,000 people, and now signing with WOW is what dreams are made of.  My next dream to come true that will top off my year’s success will be when I beat Santana Garrett to win the WOW World Championship.”

Tessa Blanchard, The Beast, Fire, Eye Candy, Khloe Hurtz, Abilene Maverick

‘WOW – Women of Wrestling’ Renewed for Season 2 by AXS TV

TV’s only all-female weekly wrestling show is David McLane’s follow-up to the original “GLOW”

AXS TV has renewed “WOW – Women of Wrestling” for Season 2. The next run gets three times as many episodes — 24 — than Season 1.

The all-female professional wrestling league — and the only one with a weekly TV show — is owned by David McLane and Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss.

“WOW” is McLane’s follow-up to the original “GLOW,” which has been adapted into a scripted dramedy on Netflix.

“‘WOW’ is proud to partner with AXS TV to bring this incredible promotion to viewers across the country,” Buss said in a statement Wednesday. “It is an honor to be able to continue this organization’s long tradition of showcasing the absolute best in all-female wrestling. The women of WOW appeal to a wide and diverse audience because of their strength, competitive spirit, and impressive athleticism, and the tremendous viewer response we’ve received is proof of that. This season was just the beginning, and we are all excited to build on our initial success with the delivery of new episodes airing in fall.”

“We listened to the fans as to what they wanted to see in women’s wrestling and are extremely pleased with the overwhelming response we’ve received from the viewers, it has been truly incredible,” McLane added. “Our Superheroes are authentic and real, and that comes across in each episode. People are captivated by their unique personalities, and they truly get invested in their stories — we are so happy they love tuning in to cheer on their favorite wrestlers. We look forward to providing our viewers with even more insights into the back stories of these amazing athletes and their epic battles with WOW’s future episodes on AXS TV.”

The “WOW” Season 1 finale airs Friday, March 8 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on AXS TV. It will include the first tag-team match of the season, as well as a title match between reigning champ Tessa Blanchard and the “Monster of Madness” Jessicka Havok.

In addition to sharing the renewal news, on a Wednesday conference call with media, McLane said he is opening the WOW Training Center in Long Beach, California. It will be the first all-women’s wrestling school in the United States.

Blanchard and fellow WOW “Superhero” — which is the term “Women of Wrestling” uses to brand its competitors — Selina Majors will be trainers.

“I am happy to join Selina Majors in providing women with a fully comprehensive training program designed specifically for them,” Blanchard said. “I was trained by men, and while that worked for me, I know a more supportive community for women wanting to join our profession will increase the participation.”

ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group Provides Women’s Wrestling Its Largest Media Footprint in Sports Entertainment History

ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group announced today a new multi-year distribution agreement with WOW – Women Of Wrestling (WOW), marking the return of the world’s leading women’s wrestling league. This historic and exclusive media rights deal gives WOW the biggest distribution opportunities for the U.S. and abroad in the history of women’s professional wrestling. WOW is owned by Jeanie Buss and was created by David McLane, founder of women’s wrestling’s original hit series GLOW.

New episodes of WOW will launch in weekend syndication beginning in the fall of 2022. ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group has already secured clearance in 160 markets, representing 70 percent of the United States via licensing agreements with deals that include CBS-owned-and-operated stations and Sinclair Broadcast Group. Historical seasons will be available on CW Seed and Pluto TV platforms, expected in December 2021.

Former WWE world champion and New York Times bestselling author of Crazy Is My Superpower AJ Mendez will provide color commentary during each broadcast, which will feature the return of WOW World Champion The Beast and former world champion Tessa Blanchard to the squared circle.

“Wrestling’s presentation of women has long been very important to me, and we now are presenting the epitome in sports entertainment that will highlight the athleticism of these superstars as we reintroduce WOW,” said Jeanie Buss, Owner of WOW. “Our partnership with the entire ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group family allows us to continue our mission of providing wrestling fans and WOW Superheroes what they have all deserved: a global platform for a dedicated women’s wrestling league.”

Buss and Mendez will serve as executive producers, while WOW creator and founder McLane is the executive producer of the production, along with two-time Emmy Award nominee Nick Staller. ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group distributes the series in the U.S. and internationally.

^ Broadcast syndication

WOW Talent Claim Tessa Blanchard Had A Falling Out With WOW

It seems as if WOW Women of Wrestling is already facing issues, if people in the company are to be believed.

Via sources that work for WOW in a talent capacity, Fightful has been informed of allegations of issues surrounding Tessa Blanchard and WOW, after the brand looked to serve as a rehabilitation project for her. After Blanchard deactivated her social media, Fightful was told WOW sources that there has been a bit of a fallout between the two sides. We do not know her status for this week's WOW tapings, but that will likely paint a broader picture.

The issue within verifying the information is that many of the people who work for WOW have signed non-disclosure agreements and fear backlash from the company or Blanchard when speaking out. Based on those we've spoken to, many within WOW seem to think both have more power within wrestling than they actually do.

One source alleges that in a class in mid-April, Blanchard cut a promo on wrestler Samantha Sage, who is known as Americana. We're told that the promo saw Blanchard "tear apart" Sage, leading to many trainees speaking up. Per the source, acting classes were canceled from that point until further notice. At least one trainee was told that Blanchard would be less involved moving forward, but that's hardly confirmed. We reached out to Sage but didn't hear back.

Another source indicated that Tessa Blanchard is no longer in charge of training talent, and Selina Majors has been brought back to handle that moving forward. Another anonymous source said "If you are a fan of Tessa, you'd better learn Spanish," implying that she would have to work in Mexico.

The 26-year old Blanchard has wrestled only one match in the last two years, which was to drop the Warrior Wrestling Title to Kylie Rae in the fall of 2020.

One former WOW star speculated as far as saying that they believe Tessa is gone from the company, but we haven't confirmed as much. We reached out to WOW in an official capacity weeks ago, but haven't heard back.

There was a major shift in the plans for WOW last fall, which will tell you more about in the coming days.
