“I already had an injury,” Werdum told MMAjunkie. “I have a cracked toe on my right foot. I haven’t trained in two weeks. Actually, I was training but couldn’t kick. Regardless, I was still going to face Cain Velasquez. The last time around, I had a contusion on my head and ended up not sparring for 40 days. I fought, regardless.

“Now, this past Friday, I hurt my back. I suffered a hard sprain. I ended up getting massages, going to the doctor, and everything else. But I felt it a lot while training today. I sparred today but couldn’t train as I should. So I decided not to fight since I’m not 100 percent. I’m not 100 percent, as I should be.”

“If Cain was going to fight, I was still going to face him,” Werdum said. “There’s a history between us due to our previous fight. Our fight was canceled three times. The first time I fought Travis Browne. Then, I fought Mark Hunt. Then I fought Cain. And now he canceled again. It’s not his fault. It’s no one’s fault. It happens. We train a lot. Injuries always happen. It can’t be avoided. When you train hard, there will always be injuries.”

“What weighed a lot was that, in my career, it took a long time to get here, to get the belt, to be the champion,” Werdum said. “I can’t throw it all out the window if I’m not 100 percent confident. I always say one needs to have balance between mind and body. Now, things are unstable. I don’t know if it’s the body or the mind. It’s a bit confusing. Now I have to think about everything at once. I can’t think about things the same way as when I was 20.

“It’s not like that anymore. Everything has changed. I’m 38 now. I’m the champion. I’m feeling great in this moment of my life. But I can’t risk a 20-year career due to my pride. I can’t.”

Нямам търпение да видя Джонката обратно в октагона. Следя му профила в фейсбук и определено мога да кажа, че е в най-добрата форма през живота си. Някой хора говорят как понеже бил качил килограми щял да стане по-бавен, но аз не съм съгласен с това. Според мен Джонката ще се върне по-силен от всякога и незнам дали ще се качи в тежката категория, но "прасенцето" Кормиер ще изяде най-големия пердах през живота си.

Kevin Randleman почина на 44-годишна възраст

 

Kevin Randleman е починал снощи на 44-годишна възраст. Легендарният боец е постъпил в болница с пневмония, но сърцето му е отказало. Новината за смъртта му бе потвърдена от неговото семейство.

Randleman спечели титлата на UFC през 1999 в UFC 23. Той е една от иконите в спорта, доказвайки името си в турнири като PRIDE, Sengoku и Strikeforce.

Първите древни Олимпийски игри са се провели 776 г. преди Христа. Всичко е започнало с едно единствено събитие - бягане на 200 метра. И така е било в първите 13 издания на игрите. В 18-тото издание през 708 г. преди Христа е била добавена и борбата. През 648 г. преди Христа игрите са били допълнени и със свободни боеве (панкратион). През следващите 1000 години са настъпвали различни промени, докато през 394 г. те са били забранени от римския император Теодосий I, като част от кампанията му за навлизане на християнството в Рим. Когато в Атина игрите се възраждат през 1896, те са били без панкратиона, тъй като по една или друга причина тогава боксът и борбата са били по-популярни, а свободните боеве не. Това обаче се променя с времето. Боксът, джудото и таекуон до са вече в Олимпийските игри в Рио. Съсобственикът на UFC, Lorenzo Fertitta сподели пред BBC, че ММА съвсем скоро отново ще стане Олимпийски спорт.

UFC champ Holly Holm has 'zero concern' over UFC 196 main event snub

 

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Holly Holm will become the first UFC champion to take a backseat to a non-title fight in more than a decade on Saturday at UFC 196.

For the first time since UFC 51 in February 2005, a non-title fight will headline over a UFC championship bout when Conor McGregor (19-2 MMA, 7-0 UFC) vs. Nate Diaz (18-10 MMA, 13-8 UFC) takes main event billing at UFC 196 over the women’s bantamweight championship affair between Holm (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) and challenger Miesha Tate (17-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC). Featherweight champ McGregor’s position at the top of the card is more than understandable. He was originally penciled in asthe  headliner in a champion vs. champion fight with Rafael dos Anjos, but the 155-pound king pulled out of the fight due to an injury and Diaz stepped in as a last-minute replacement at welterweight. Although there have been infrequent exceptions in company history, the UFC has almost always pushed to keep title fights at the top of the card. Holm didn’t get that opportunity but said she’s not losing sleep over it.

 

“I don’t really – a lot of people are like, ‘You should be the main event.’ I’m like, ‘co-main is fine,'” Holm told MMAjunkie. “I have my fight. That’s all I care about. It’s not my job to promote and I’m so glad because that’s really not a concern or care of mine.”

 

UFC 196 takes place at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. Holm vs. Tate and McGregor vs. Diaz are the featured bouts on the main card, which airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. McGregor’s main event spot does not rattle Holm, she said. Others were far more outraged, though, particularly because UFC President Dana White said in 2013 when discussing former champ Ronda Rousey that no matter the circumstances title fights would always be last on any given event.

 

“You will never see a (different) situation in any fight, whether men, women, the lightest weight division there is,” White said. “If you’re the champion, you’re the headliner. You’re the top of the card.”

 

Despite White’s comments, Holm said she still has a hard time getting worked up over the situation. “The Preacher’s Daughter” is a humble and reserved personality as is, and the lessened pressure to promote because of McGregor and Diaz’s presence actually allows her to put more focus on doing her primary job: defeating Tate.

 

“I just want to win,” Holm said. “I don’t care if it’s the first fight, the last fight (or) the second to last fight. It’s honestly – I have zero concern about that.”
