По подобие на темата за Белатор правя и такава за WSOF. Ясно е, че няма нужда от нова тема за всяко събитие, което организира компанията, но все пак има неща, за които си струва да се драсне чат-пат по някой ред.

 

Последната галавечер беше WSOF 8 -  Джъстин Гейджи спечели титлата в лега категория и засега е 11-0 с големи очаквания за него. Не мога да кажа, че бях много впечатлен от мача му, но все пак изглежда наистина бърз и с добра физика

 

Антъни Джонсън продължава да изглежда добре в категорията да 205 паунда. Дано се завърне един ден в UFC и да го гледаме там.

 

Следващата галавечер - WSOF 9 ще се проведе края на март и по план Юшин Оками ще вземе участие в него.

Белатор със сигурност се явява втората по-големина ММА организация в момента (откъм известни имена). На трето място трябва да дойде точно WSOF , тъй като в Азия вече почти не останаха популярни имена, които да се състезават, а и там самите мачове са пълна пародия последните години. Не че има кой знае какво да се види, но веднъж на два месеца със сигурност могат да извадят интересен кард с наличните бойци.

 

Аз лично с удоволствие ще следя мачовете на Оками, на Фич, на Антъни Джонсън и на Андрей, пък бил той и да е за пенсия вече.

Ако трябва да сме обективни, то Invicta със сигурност са пред тях. Проблемът на WSOF е, че разчитат главно на хора от UFC, които са били уволнени от компанията, защото или имат losing streak или не draw-ват, или комбинация от двете. Та, за компания, която има аспирации да е повече от feeder-ска на UFC, това не е особено добър знак. Реално хора като Okami, Fitch, Johnson и т.н. са там, а не в Bellator, защото UFC са в добри отношения с WSOF и една транзиция обратно в #1 шоуто би била много по-естествена.

Надали могат да предложат на този етап някакъв мач, който да породи някакъв hype у мен, но пък има няколко интересни хора за гледане като Spong, Johnson, Mocco, Newell и т.н.

Svetlozar Savov е време да се завърне към предишното си амплоа, чукането на безмозъчни чалга певачки, защото беше тотално доминиран. Palhares с чудовищен leglock за пореден път. Alan Belcher явно е гений в защитата им, след като успя да го спре преди няколко години. Гледам някакво controversy, но Palhares спря, когато съдията се намеси. Може да се спори, дали трябва да го прави, когато усети tap-а, но това не е негова работа, а на съдията, който трява да е в правилната позиция за да може да се намеси на секундата.

Днес успях да изгледам шоуто. Получи се добър event и всеки един от мачовете завърши със stoppage.

 

 

Ако не друго, то МЕ си заслужаваше гледането. Gaetje и Palomino сътвориха истинска война и един от най-добрите двубои в последно време. И двамата дадоха всичко от себе си в този двубой като накрая беше доста тъжно да гледаш разочарования перуанец, който въпреки всичко имаше своите шансове, но Gaetje определено е звяр. Със сигурност в близко бъдеще го виждам в UFC. 

 

Малко изненадваща загуба на Тиаго Силва, който трябваше да се бие с Мат Хамил, но последния получи стомашни проблеми в деня преди мача и мястото му зае Teddy Holder, който не показа страх от именития си противник и го нокаутира още в първият рунд.

 

Добро впечетление отново Timur Valiev, който записа трета поредна победа в WSOF. Много искам да го видя срещу Марлон Мораес, тъй като дагестанецът е безпощаден и определено го очаква голямо бъдеще.

Малко със закъснение го гледах - Джъстин Гейчи и аз бих искал да го видя в UFC да се бие с елита, а и има победа срещу Мелвин Гилард, но ако иде там със сигурност ще трябва да се бие с повече стратегия, защото с тия мелета, в които участва досега, няма да стане номерът мисля, въпреки че заради този негов стил е толкова харесван. Иначе пичът си има уменията - има страйкинг, има борба.

И аз чак сега намерих временце да го изгледам. МейнИвента си заслужаваше определено - един от MOTYC със сигурност. Тиаго Силва го отнесе лошо, но не е толкова изненадващо - отдавна свърши с големия спорт.

Хаха, ние чак сега го гледаме, а то имало и нов WSOF, и нов Bellator, а утре и UFC... Мисля и тия M-1 да ги дръпна, ма нещо много стават, тия дни само кютеци ще гледам.

Компанията е подписала с бившия tournament winner на Bellator, и един от големите проспекти в Featherweight дивизията, Frodo Khasbulaev:

 

Frodo is coming back to the ring. Or at least the cage.

Former Bellator MMA top featherweight contender Frodo Khasbulaev will make his return to MMA after more than two years away at World Series of Fighting 21 on June 5 in Edmonton, WSOF announced Wednesday on Twitter.

Khasbulaev was initially slated to meet former WSOF featherweight champion Rick Glenn (15-3) at the event, however Glenn withdrew due to an undisclosed injury on Wednesday, WSOF executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz told MMAFighting.com.

WSOF officials are actively seeking a replacement opponent.

Khasbulaev, whose real first name is Magomedrasul, has not fought since beating Mike Richman at Bellator 95 on April 4, 2013. The Dagestan native has been caught in a visa mess and unable to compete in the United States. He was finally granted his release from Bellator in January. Khasbulaev's manager Rizvan Magomedov told MMAFighting.com at the time that he had an offer from ONE Championship, but now the 28-year-old has signed with World Series of Fighting.

Khasbulaev (21-5) won the Bellator season eight featherweight tournament and would have gotten a title shot if not for his problems getting into the U.S. Overall, he has won nine straight and many people still feel he's one of the top featherweights in the world.

WSOF 21 is headlined by heavyweight title fight between champion Smealinho Rama and Blagoi Ivanov. Palmer will defend his featherweight title against Horodecki in the co-main event.

Дейвид Бранч вече е шампион в 2 дивизии - към middleweight титлата си прибави и light heavyweight такава. Наистина се е превърнал в изверг, много би било интересно като fantasy booking ако Палхарес го върнат евентуално, да ги сблъскат за middleweight титлата. Те двамата имат история - в UFC прелим мач Палхарес го бие с kneebar във втори рунд през 2011. В края на първи рунд пък Палхарес може би го спасява гонга, когато бива запукван със здрав граунд енд паунд в самия му край. Дейвид Бранч по това време е некъв джобър в сравнение със сегашната му форма, така че един такъв хипотетичен сблъсък сега ще е интересен. Доколко би могло да стане изобщо не знам, просто е готина идея за мач.

Luiz Firmino vs. Caros Fodor moves to headlining status at Saturday's WSOF 27

A lightweight matchup featuring a Brazilian veteran and a World Series of Fighting newcomer has been named the headliner of Saturday’s WSOF 27 event.

The Luiz Firmino (18-6) vs. Caros Fodor (10-4) bout was briefly set as the night’s co-headliner, when Firmino stepped in to replace an injured Mike Ricci, but WSOF President Ray Sefo recently announced the change in plans.

“Luiz currently owns a five-fight winning streak, including World Series of Fighting bouts with Tyson Griffin and Jacob Volkmann – two well-respected veterans,” Sefo wrote on WSOF.com. “I think Luiz deserves the spotlight in this event, and a chance to prove he’s one of the top 155-pounders on our roster. And that also allows Caros to keep his spot in the main event, which I know was important to him. So Saturday’s main event will feature Luiz Firmino vs. Caros Fodor in the main event and Teddy Holder vs. Shamil Gamzatov in the co-main. Both fights are three-round contests.

“I look forward to see who will step up with this massive opportunity in front of them.”

Firmino is riding a five-fight winning streak, but has been out of action since a June 2014 win over Tyson Griffin at WSOF 10. The well-traveled veteran has competed in PRIDE, DREAM, M-1 and Shooto in addition to WSOF.

Fodor is on his own two-fight winning streak, most recently defeating Vincent Latoel by second-round rear-naked choke at ONE Championship 20. He competed in ONE Championship after being released from the UFC after a UFC 157 split decision loss to Sam Stout in his only octagon appearance.

5 reasons to watch Saturday's WSOF 27 from Memphis, including a slew of unbeatens

WSOF is in Memphis for Saturday’s WSOF 27 event. The fight card marks the first time the promotion has visited “The Volunteer State” of Tennessee.

While the event is absent any international MMA stars, it is heavy on local talent, with the majority of the competing fighters hailing from either Arkansas or Tennessee.

In the main event, Caros Fodor, who has fought for Strikeforce, ONE Championship and the UFC, faces former PRIDE fighter Luiz Firmino, who is on a five-fight winning streak, including two straight victories in WSOF.

One of the aforementioned local fighters, Teddy Holder, better known as “the guy that knocked out Thiago Silva at WSOF 19,” competes in the co-main event. Holder faces the unbeaten Shamil Gamzatov.

There are seven total fights on the WSOF 27 fight card, which takes place at FedEX Forum. The card kicks off with prelims streaming at MMAjunkie before moving to NBCSN for the main card.

If you’re asking yourself exactly why you should watch WSOF 27, here are five reasons to tune in.

1. Looking to impress

Firmino (18-6) has been fighting professionally since 2000. During that time he’s competed for PRIDE, Shooto, M-1 and DREAM. Firmino’s past two fights have been with WSOF. In those bouts, he defeated former UFC fighters Jacob Volkmann and Tyson Griffin. His hope was that a win over Griffin at WSOF 10 would land him an offer from the UFC. Since the 33-year-old lightweight is fighting at WSOF 27, it’s safe to assume that call never came.

Firmino will get another chance to impress the UFC brass when he faces Fodor in the main event of WSOF 27, stepping in on short notice to replace the injured Mike Ricci.

2. Prove it wasn’t a fluke

Teddy Holder

 

Holder wasn’t supposed to fight former UFC fighter Silva at WSOF 19, but when Silva’s scheduled opponent, Matt Hamill, fell ill hours before the event, Holder got the call asking him if he wanted the fight.

Holder accepted the offer despite the fact he was coming off a 595-day layoff. The result was a knockout win. That KO earned him a shot at the inaugural WSOF light heavyweight crown, but Holder lost the title fight to David Branch via first-round submission.

WSOF 27 is Holder’s first fight since his loss to Branch. He faces the unbeaten Gamzatov (9-0), who has never gone the distance in any of his pro bouts. Holder will obviously be looking to use this fight to end any one-hit wonder talk.

3. Let’s see what’s really up

At first glance, Gamzatov’s record of 9-0 looks pretty impressive. He has four knockouts and five submissions and none of his fights have gone past the 2:07 mark of the second round. However, if you dig a little deeper things become interesting.

Gamzatov’s opponents in those nine fights have a combined record of 21-44. A fair number of those wins and losses come from Gamzatov’s most recent opponent, the 10-25 Yuri Gorbenko, whom Gamzatov submitted in the first round in October 2014.

Gamzatov’s fight versus Holder will give MMA fans an idea of what the 25-year-old fighter can really bring to the cage.

4. Local prospect

As far as the WSOF 27 prelims are concerned, Wade Johnson (9-1) looks like the fighter to watch. The 25-year-old turned pro in 2013 and has found success on the independent circuit. Johnson has five knockouts and two submissions to his name, and he employs a fan-friendly style. Johnson is an aggressive striker who can hurt his opponents with combinations, and once he has the advantage he doesn’t hesitate to go for the finish. Johnson faces Justin Hartely (3-1), whose victories have all come via submission, in a welterweight contest.

5. That’s a lot of zeros

Four unbeaten fighters are competing at WSOF 27, Gamzatov (9-0), Jaleel Willis (5-0), Chauncey Foxworth (1-0) and Bryce Mitchell (4-0). All four fight on the main card. Gamzatov faces Holder (9-2) in the light heavyweight co-main; Foxworth and Mitchell square off  in a welterweight scrap; and Mitchell meets Jorge Medina (4-2) in a lightweight bout. Even more interesting, none of the unbeaten fighters have fought for WSOF before, so for many fans, it will be the first time they get the chance to scout and assess the abilities of some WSOF newcomers.
