degenerat 2
Ten big matches make up the last major show of 2011 for New Japan in Aichi, the tour climax of the upcoming “NEW JAPAN ALIVE 2011“. All eyes are on the most prestigious prize in Japanese pro wrestling, the IWGP Heavyweight Title, as Hiroshi Tanahashi looks to equal Yuji Nagata’s defense record of ten by making his V10 defense of the belt against the man himself. Tanahashi vs. Nagata is the centerpiece of the entire tour, meaning every main event has a New Japan vs. New Japan look to it, rather than the typical New Japan vs. enemy faction setup. The G1 Climax final is revisited in Aichi also as Tetsuya Naito tries to take down Shinsuke Nakamura, while following on from the IWGP Tag Team Title match in Osaka, Giant Bernard and Minoru Suzuki go to war in singles action. After bypassing the challenge of Hirooki Goto, Masato Tanaka makes his V2 defense of the IWGP Intercontinental Title against the founding champion MVP, while Prince Devitt again treads on familiar ground by making his V2 defense of the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title against one of the men who took the IWGP Jr. Tag Team Title from he and Taguchi recently, Davey Richards. Of course Richards pinned Devitt in that match and so earns another shot at singles gold as he did during Devitt’s first reign. Special tag matches are also set up including the revival of an old feud between Hirooki Goto and the most successful GHC Heavyweight Champion in its history, NOAH’s Takashi Sugiura. Since their singles series these two have sporadically met in tag action, suggesting another singles match could be on the cards at some point NJPW “NEW JAPAN ALIVE”, 12/4/11 (WPW/PPV) Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium 1. Karl Anderson & Killer Rabbit vs. Jado & Gedo 2. Satoshi Kojima, Tiger Mask, Ryusuke Taguchi & Tama Tonga vs. Toru Yano, Yujiro Takahashi, Tomohiro Ishii & Rocky Romero 3. Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Tomoaki Honma vs. Takashi Iizuka & Hideo Saito 4. Special Tag Match: Hirooki Goto & KUSHIDA vs. Takashi Sugiura & Atsushi Aoki 5. Special Tag Match: Togi Makabe & Wataru Inoue vs. Yoshihiro Takayama & Lance Archer 6. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title: Prince Devitt © vs. Davey Richards 7. IWGP Intercontinental Title: Masato Tanaka vs. MVP 8. Special Singles Match: Giant Bernard vs. Minoru Suzuki 9. Special Singles Match: Tetsuya Naito vs. Shinsuke Nakamura 10. nWoHulkster
NJPW, 12/4/11 (WPW/PPV) Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium 8,000 Fans – No Vacancy 1. Karl Anderson & Killer Rabbit beat Jado & Gedo (4:47) when Rabbit used the Mochitsuki Drop on Gedo. 2. Toru Yano, Yujiro Takahashi, Tomohiro Ishii & Rocky Romero beat Tomoaki Honma, Tiger Mask, Ryusuke Taguchi & Tama Tonga (9:33) when Romero used a backslide on Taguchi. 3. Special Tag Match: Takashi Sugiura & Atsushi Aoki beat Hirooki Goto & KUSHIDA (11:13) when Sugiura used an Olympic slam on KUSHIDA. 4. Special Tag Match: Yoshihiro Takayama & Lance Archer beat Togi Makabe & Wataru Inoue (10:28) when Takayama used a running kneelift on Inoue. 5. Special Tag Match: Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima beat Takashi Iizuka & Hideo Saito (10:25) when Tenzan used the Anaconda Vice on Iizuka. 6. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title: Prince Devitt © beat Davey Richards (12:16) with the Bloody Sunday (2nd defense). 7. IWGP Intercontinental Title: Masato Tanaka © beat MVP (10:09) with the Sliding D (2nd defense). 8. Special Singles Match: Minoru Suzuki beat Giant Bernard (11:53) with a Gotch-style piledriver. 9. Special Singles Match: Shinsuke Nakamura beat Tetsuya Naito (13:15) with the Boma Ye. 10. IWGP Heavyweight Title: Hiroshi Tanahashi © beat Yuji Nagata (30:16) with the High Fly Flow (10th defense). * Hiroshi Tanahashi tied Yuji Nagata’s V10 defense record of the IWGP Heavyweight Title by beating the man himself in a half hour epic today in Aichi. Beating Nagata means that if Tanahashi wins his next defense he will smash Nagata’s defense record and enhance his growing legacy. Tanahashi was confronted after the match by Minoru Suzuki, who had beaten Giant Bernard earlier, and who demanded to be Tanahashi’s Tokyo Dome opponent in January, which will mark the one-year anniversary of Tana’s title win, so this looks to be the main event of WKVI. * The much awaited G1 Climax 2011 final rematch went the same way with CHAOS leader Nakamura pinning Naito in a fiery match following his Boma Ye, Nakamura showing he is still a leading man in New Japan despite Tanahashi’s near monopoly of the title. * Masato Tanaka continues to impress as IWGP Intercontinental Title by withstanding the challenge of the man he took it off, MVP. Tanaka pinned the former WWE superstar after smashing him with the Sliding D. * Devitt’s second reign as IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion also continued as he beat rival Davey Richards in his V2 defense. Devitt has already repeated his successful defenses against Richards and TAKA from his first reign now in his current reign. * TenKoji’s reunion went without a hitch as they bested CHAOS’ crazy duo of Iizuka & Saito, Tenzan forcing Iizuka to tap out. The big talking point after the match came when CHAOS appeared to kick the mentally unstable Saito out of their faction! * The two other special tag matches both seemed to suggest singles matches at the Tokyo Dome: Makabe vs. Takayama and Goto vs. Sugiura, both of which would continue old rivalries.
