Participants and the lineup for the “SUPER J TAG TOURNAMENT 1ST”, set for May 8th, were announced today. It is a colourful and diverse cast that includes wrestlers from around the world. From America come former TNA Tag Team Champion, Consequences Creed, along with Davey Richards. From CMLL in Mexico come the tandem of Mascara Dorada and Valiente. Japanese names from outside of New Japan include the returning El Samurai, Kota Ibushi, KUSHIDA, and the Michinoku Pro tandem of Fujita “Jr.” Hayato and Taro Nohashi. All of New Japan’s active juniors also compete, with IWGP Jr. Tag Team Champions, Apollo 55, perhaps favourites to win the entire tournament.

Apollo 55″ Ryusuke Taguchi & Prince Devitt have vacated the IWGP Jr. Tag Team Title today after accepting a proposal from the company to return them. Devitt has been injured quite a while and their last defense was back on the February 14th show at Sumo Hall against Gedo & Dick Togo. The two have held the belts since downing TNA Wrestling’s Motor City Machine Guns on July 5th last year so were heading towards one year with them. But in a big incentive to the “SUPER J TAG TOURNAMENT” on May 8th, the winning team at JCB Hall will become the 25th generation IWGP Jr. Tag Team Champions! And yes, Apollo 55 are still scheduled to still be in this tournament so could instantly win the belts back but there will be plenty of competition.
