neshev Posted August 14, 2008 Share Posted August 14, 2008 We already knew that Antonio Tarver would be facing Chad Dawson in a light heavyweight unification bout on October 11, and we knew that V. Klitschko was supposed to face Sam Peter in the fall but today we have confirmation that Klitschko vs. Peter will take place on October 11 on Showtime. The fight will be broadcast at 9 p.m. ET/PT on a tape delay and will immediately be followed by the live Tarver-Dawson fight. The Peter-Klitschko showdown will be co-promoted by Duva Boxing, K2 Promotions and Don King Productions from a site to be determined. Tarver vs. Dawson is promoted by Gary Shaw Productions in association with AT Entertainment. "I want to send Vitali back into retirement, and then end his brother's reign as champion," boasted Peter, who will make his fourth Showtime Championship Boxing appearance in his past five fights. "I will become the first fighter to end an entire family's boxing career. Everyone is going down. The heavyweight division is mine." Klitschko, who turned 37 on July 19, has not fought since Dec. 11, 2004, when he successfully defended his WBC title against Danny Williams in Las Vegas. In 2005, Klitschko was scheduled to face Hasim Rahman for his next title defense but the fight was called off when Klitschko injured his knee and back in training. Since then, Klitschko has run for mayor of his native city of Kiev, Ukraine, twice, including a reportedly narrow defeat earlier this year. "I cannot believe this day is finally here," said Klitschko, who captured the WBC title on April 24, 2004, with an eighth-round TKO over Corrie Sanders in Los Angeles. Immediately following the heavyweight world title fight, which begins at 9 p.m. ET/PT on tape delay, Chad Dawson will meet Antonio Tarver in a light heavyweight unification fight live on Showtime. Earlier today, Klitschko and Peter took part in a press conference in New York City to talk about the upcoming bout. SAMUEL PETER "I am very grateful to be here today. I want to clear up one thing. I am the true heavyweight champion. Vitali, you never beat a champion. You say you are the champion, but you are not a champion. You can't be the champion until you beat me, and you can't. "I have fought 31 fights and never ducked anyone. I fought with my eardrum broken and lost 25 pounds that night, but I still fought. "I am making one promise today. I will knock Vitali out. Trust me. Peter caused a ruckus on Monday when he yanked the WBC belt away from Vitali Klitschko and stormed off the stage. VITALI KLITSCHKO "I have already fought for a title twice and both times I won. This is the third time and I will be the winner again. "On October 11, we will know who will be the true WBC Heavyweight-Champion. I'm in great condition and have had a perfect preparation phase." Loop Posted October 12, 2008 Share Posted October 12, 2008 Ако някой още не е разбрал - The WBC awarded Vitali a chance to regain his WBC belt and on October 11, 2008 in Germany he did so by beating Samuel Peter, when Peter retired on his stool at the end of the eighth round, while being behind 80-72 on the judges scorecards. The scoring was announced prior to the end of the night as part of the WBCs temporary open scoring system. Quote Link to comment
