Витали Кличко срещу Самюел Питър - 11 октомври 2008

Recommended Posts

We already knew that Antonio Tarver would be facing Chad Dawson in a light heavyweight unification bout on October 11, and we knew that V. Klitschko was supposed to face Sam Peter in the fall but today we have confirmation that Klitschko vs. Peter will take place on October 11 on Showtime. The fight will be broadcast at 9 p.m. ET/PT on a tape delay and will immediately be followed by the live Tarver-Dawson fight.

The Peter-Klitschko showdown will be co-promoted by Duva Boxing, K2 Promotions and Don King Productions from a site to be determined. Tarver vs. Dawson is promoted by Gary Shaw Productions in association with AT Entertainment.

"I want to send Vitali back into retirement, and then end his brother's reign as champion," boasted Peter, who will make his fourth Showtime Championship Boxing appearance in his past five fights. "I will become the first fighter to end an entire family's boxing career. Everyone is going down. The heavyweight division is mine."

Klitschko, who turned 37 on July 19, has not fought since Dec. 11, 2004, when he successfully defended his WBC title against Danny Williams in Las Vegas. In 2005, Klitschko was scheduled to face Hasim Rahman for his next title defense but the fight was called off when Klitschko injured his knee and back in training. Since then, Klitschko has run for mayor of his native city of Kiev, Ukraine, twice, including a reportedly narrow defeat earlier this year.

"I cannot believe this day is finally here," said Klitschko, who captured the WBC title on April 24, 2004, with an eighth-round TKO over Corrie Sanders in Los Angeles. "I am injury free and ready to take my title back.

No doubt, a heavyweight title fight on everyone's radar, WBC heavyweight titlist Sam Peter (30-1, 23 KOs) will lock horns with former champ Vitali Klitschko (35-2, 34 KOs) on October 11 in Germany.

Immediately following the heavyweight world title fight, which begins at 9 p.m. ET/PT on tape delay, Chad Dawson will meet Antonio Tarver in a light heavyweight unification fight live on Showtime.

Earlier today, Klitschko and Peter took part in a press conference in New York City to talk about the upcoming bout.

SAMUEL PETER

"I am very grateful to be here today. I want to clear up one thing. I am the true heavyweight champion.

Vitali, you never beat a champion. You say you are the champion, but you are not a champion. You can't be the champion until you beat me, and you can't.

"I have fought 31 fights and never ducked anyone. I fought with my eardrum broken and lost 25 pounds that night, but I still fought.

"I am making one promise today. I will knock Vitali out. Trust me. I will knock out Vitali, and then I will beat his brother (IBF/WBO Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko). There is no doubt about that."

VITALI KLITSCHKO

"Thank you to everyone who put energy into making this fight happen."

"I am pleased to say that I am back. I am happy to be back in the ring, happy to fight for my title. I gave away my title freely because of my knee injury.

"I feel sorry for Peter that I must fight him. Skeptical people say that I won't win because I have been out of the ring for three years, but I did not lose the title. I am honored to fight for (WBC President) José Sulaimán, who gave me this chance.

"I have big respect for Mr. Lou Duva, but his fighters always say they will knock me out and it never happens. Mr. Duva is preparing Peter to knock me out, but this will never happen.

"I don't underestimate Peter. He is a good puncher. I will give my best to be the winner, to take my title back, and to make history where two brothers will be champions at the same time. It's a huge motivation for me.

"I promise the fight will not be easy and it won't go to the scorecards. It will probably end between rounds four-six. I have a lot of presents ready for Peter for October 11."

DINO DUVA (Peter's promoter)

"This fight was a fight that a lot of people never thought would happen. When the WBC ordered Sam Peter to fight Vitali Klitschko, I was the most skeptical about Klitschko's ability. But, a few weeks ago, I ran into Vitali at the Olympics in Beijing. I saw him walk toward me with a fire in his eye and he asked me if the fight was happening. When I told him yes it was, he promised me that he would show up as ready as ever. After seeing him and the fire in him, my doubts were put to rest.

LOU DUVA (Legendary trainer)

Peter reminds me of Rocky Marciano, and he will definitely knock out Vitali. You're going to see a fight here, and I'll tell you what, on October 11, you will see Peter knockout Klitschko."

BERND BOENTE (Klitschko's Manager)

"This will be a great fight between two great punchers. I doubt however that this fight goes 12 rounds."

This Saturday night from Berlin, Germany, Sam Peter will put his WBC heavyweight title on the line against former champion Vitali Klitschko. Peter caused a ruckus on Monday when he yanked the WBC belt away from Vitali Klitschko and stormed off the stage.

VITALI KLITSCHKO

"I have already fought for a title twice and both times I won. This is the third time and I will be the winner again.

"On October 11, we will know who will be the true WBC Heavyweight-Champion. I'm in great condition and have had a perfect preparation phase."

FRITZ SDUNEK - Vitali Klitschko's Trainer

Vitali is very prepared. The camp was perfect. He needed four sparring partners during the camp in Austria. Vitali is a veteran fighter. He knows what to expect from his training camp since this is his third time preparing for a world title fight.

Sam Peter should be called the rabbit, not because he is quick and fast, but because he throws so many rabbit punches."

SAMUEL PETER

"Vitali Klitschko is trying to take my title belt from me. He tried to take it out of my hands at the press conference, but I snatched it from him. It is mine!

"He is a phony who is messing with my career and my life. On Saturday, he will be out of everyone's life for good."

"I'm very well prepared. It will be a great fight"

Ако някой още не е разбрал -

The WBC awarded Vitali a chance to regain his WBC belt and on October 11, 2008 in Germany he did so by beating Samuel Peter, when Peter retired on his stool at the end of the eighth round, while being behind 80-72 on the judges scorecards. The scoring was announced prior to the end of the night as part of the WBCs temporary open scoring system.
