nWoHulkster
New Japan ran one of it's best overall shows in a long time today, headlined by what was described as a career defining match between IWGP Heavyweight Champion, Tanahashi, and the remarkable Hirooki Goto. 30 minutes of great action saw the two go back and forth, the fans staggered by the growth both men showed as they put together one of the best matches of the year. Goto injured his spine badly during the match, but defied the doctor and fought on bravely. Tanahashi trapped him in a Texas Cloverleaf hold, coldheartedly putting his challenger in agony. Goto finally tapped out, Tanahashi succeeding in the first defense of his second reign. Nakamura and Makabe intruded after the match, both demanding shots at Tanahashi, and the New Japan ring was again controlled by the young generation that seems to have taken over the company. A worn out Tanahashi said after the match that Goto was strong, but that he will pass the belt to nobody. Nakamura returned in triumph as he and Giant Bernard defeated Nagata & Nakanishi in the semi final. Nakamura looked strong and submitted Nakanishi with his flying cross armbreaker. He wasn't able to directly get revenge over Nagata for injuring him in the G1 semi, but he will be happy with this result. Shinsuke said after the match that he has certainly progressed one step now and wants to move forward. There is some talk of Nakamura vs. Makabe next month, with the winner facing Tanahashi at the Tokyo Dome. To the surprise of many, long-absent IWGP Jr. Tag Team Champions, Dick Togo & TAKA Michinoku, made a successful V2 defense of their belts over the team they lifted them from, Jado & Gedo. The craftsmen teams fought hard for the win, but the former Kaientai members came through when Togo pinned Jado. K-DOJO's Madoka and DDT's Kota Ibushi look set to challenge next on K-DOJO's 12/1 Shinjuku show after challenging the champs backstage post-match. New Japan vs. TNA got off to a false start when Ron Killings "missed his flight". New Japan's press conference suggested some foul play at work here from Killings, and are leaving it to TNA to discipline him. Tiger Mask, claiming Killings ran from him in fear, won their match by forfeit and was in a replacement novelty tag with Bono Tiger. In the other two matches, New Japan was completely beaten leading into the all-out war at the Tokyo Dome, but both fights were very close and went over very well. Yano fought well against Rhino, but after getting put through a table with a Gore, fell to the monster. Rhino said after the match that he was off for a beer. The X Division's Christopher Daniels & Senshi, both with experience in Japan, overcame Minoru & Devitt in a strong match. Senshi scored the big win over Minoru following his Ghetto Stomp and Minoru promised revenge after it. Wataru Inoue returned in today's opening match, sporting new pants and entering alone, despite teaming with Kanemoto. There was no backstabbing on Kanemoto, but Wataru did seem very "individual" and pinned the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion, Taguchi, quite easily. He demanded a shot at Taguchi's junior belt afterwards, so much like in the heavyweight division, the young generation is taking control of the junior division. NJPW "DESTRUCTION '07", 11/11/07 (WPW/PPV) Tokyo Ryogoku Kokugikan 6,500 Fans 1. Wataru Inoue Return Match: Koji Kanemoto & Wataru Inoue beat Ryusuke Taguchi & Yujiro (6:40) when Inoue used a modified Triangle Lancer on Taguchi. 2. Togi Makabe beat Milano Collection AT (9:39) with a top rope King Kong kneedrop. 3. New Japan vs. TNA: Tiger Mask beat Ron Killings (TNA) by forfeit. 3. New Japan Jr. vs. TNA X Division ~J or X~: Christopher Daniels (TNA) & Senshi (TNA) beat Minoru & Prince Devitt (17:23) when Senshi used the Ghetto Stomp on Minoru. 5. GBH vs. TNA ~ SPEAR or GORE: Rhino (TNA) beat Toru Yano (9:18) with the Gore. 6. New Japan vs. Legend: Riki Choshu, Masahiro Chono, Super Strong Machine, Jushin Thunder Liger & AKIRA beat Takashi Iizuka, Takashi Uwano, Mitsuhide Hirasawa, Tetsuya Naito & Taichi Ishikari (8:21) when Machine used a Devil Windmill suplex hold on Uwano. 7. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Title: Dick Togo & TAKA Michinoku Kaientai Dojo © beat Jado & Gedo (20:16) when Togo used a diving senton on Jado (2nd defense). 8. IWGP Heavyweight Title: Hiroshi Tanahashi © beat Hirooki Goto (31:32) with a Texas Cloverleaf hold (1st defense). Quote Link to comment
